NEW parking restrictions could be imposed on a network of Droitwich Spa roads to ease a long-running problem of congestion.

Residents are being asked their opinion on plans to stop motorists parking on parts of Blackfriars Avenue, Spa Road, Fabricius Avenue and Wedgeberrow Close.

The problems of congestion on Blackfriars Avenue and the corner of Fabricius Avenue are exacerbated by the nearby dental practice.

Most of Blackfriars Avenue will prohibit parking, although in front of Dorset House residential home motorists will be given one hour grace, between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday.

The parking restrictions have been put on Spa Road and Wedgeberrow Close as a precautionary measure to prohibit motorists from parking there instead.

Senior technicians at Worcestershire Highways Partnership are being asked to sign off the plans.

Peter Pinfield, Worcestershire county councillor representing Droitwich, who has been campaigning for improvements to be made, said: "There is no doubt that local residents have had to put up with a very unacceptable situation for a long time. This is a response to that problem.

"The issue of road safety both for car users and pedestrians has got to be tackled. Current double parking on the bend and is especially dangerous and the many residents of the area are entitled to go about their day to day activities in a better quality of environment than they have been experiencing of late.

He added: "It will now need to be advertised and await any objection from the wider public."
