ORGANISERS of a 10km race and fun run are looking for Redditch charities to come forward to be nominated for next year's event.

The first Redditch race and fun run, which took place last year, was a huge success and raised more than £1,300 for youth drama group Indigo Arts.

This year's event will take place on Saturday, May 21, and is set to be bigger and better with more attractions.

A steering group under the name of Arrow Community Events has been created to organise the event, which is set to take place every year, getting more established each time.

Organiser Dave Wilkins said: "This time we have financial support from Startins of Redditch and McDonalds.

''We are now looking for a charity to raise money for. All entry fees will go to the nominated charity.

''But individuals can also raise money for their own charities on a separate sponsor form."

The fun run starts at 2pm followed by the 10km race at 4pm and this year, Mr Wilkins said there would be a parents and toddlers 200m fun walk too.

Entries cost £3 each for individuals, £2 each for groups of five-nine and £1.50 each for groups of 10 or more.

"Last year, about 400 people took part in the fun run and about 150 took part in the 10km. This year, I would like at least 600 taking part in the fun run and the maximum we can have for the 10km, which is 250," said Mr Wilkins.

Any charities which would like to be nominated for this year's event or anyone who would like to enter can e-mail acevents@yahoo.co.uk or call Mr Wilkins on 07985 762859.

The following day will see Redditch host its second national sprint triathlon.
