BROMSGROVE and Redditch League officials were celebrating after a representative team clinched its first County League Championship since 1968.

The team of Pat McCabe, Mark Fiddian, Sasha Grokotov and Mike Kendall beat opposition from all over Worcestershire to seal the title.

They defeated the second team from Malvern 8-1, before beating the district's first team 6-3.

Bromsgrove and Redditch also got the better of Evesham 7-2 and Kidderminster 9-0, but were edged out by Worcester 5-4.

In the Bromsgrove and Redditch League Division One Lickey Monarchs comfortably overcame West Midlands Phones 10-0.

Leaders Cofton Hackett B beat Astwood Bank 8-2,with wins for McCabe (3), Grokotov (2) and Russell Duncan.

Matthew Hartwell won two matches for Astwood.

Droitwich B defeated Cofton Hackett A 7-3, with wins for Mark Fiddian (3), Graham Fisher (2) and Simon Tibke.

Ian Scott (2) and Jason McFall won Hackett's matches.

Under strength Droitwich A went down 8-2 to West Midlands Phones B, with wins for Ian Cooper (3), Dave Lyne (2) and Jeff Cook (2).

Bottom side Hillcrest lost 6-4 to Coughton, despite leading 3-1 at one stage.

However, Terry Rawlings (2) and Gary Jackson (3) won their matches and the doubles.

Carter Retail A won their first four games as they defeated Studley Road Terriers 6-4 in Division Two.

Eddy Brown and John Emett won two matches for Retail.

Lickey Rocs lost to West Midlands Phones C, with Alan Hyatt (2) and Ian Maybury winning their matches and the doubles for the victors.

Studley Road Nomads got the better of Droitwich D 9-1, with wins for Bernie Leech (3) and Jeff Lines (3).

Captain Sam Lloyd and Phil Govier won three matches each as SPSP beat Droitwich C 9-1.

Barnt Green Hornets got the better of youthful Droitwich E 10-0.
