Bretforton II 3, East Gloucester 2

CURRENTLY second in Severn League Division Two, Bretforton eagerly started Saturday's match with several early attacks.

Midfielder Ceri Barber worked relentlessly on the right creating opportunities for Sarah Bragg to break forward but good play by the visitors kept the ball away from the D.

Bretforton continued applying the pressure and, what looked like a lost ball off the back line, was retrieved by Julie Hall who neatly played it back to the goalmouth where Barber scored at the second attempt.

East Gloucester then stepped up their game and produced more attacking play. and levelled the scores following a short corner.

Ten minutes before the end of the first half, a skilful run by captain Bragg left her with with just the last defender to beat.

She played the ball long but the goalkeeper charged forward to clear the ball. It was picked up by Shirley Aubrey whose powerful shot found the net.

Moments later, confusion at the back left East Glos with time and possession and they sneaked in a second equaliser.

Goalkeeper Vicky Webb and sweeper Fiona Jordan worked tirelessly to keep East Glos from taking the lead and as the second half progressed, Bretforton fought hard in search of a winner.

Their efforts were rewarded when Kate Williams took advantage of some space in the D and blasted the ball into the top corner.

The player of the match award was given jointly to Bragg and Fiona Jordan.
