Kidderminster Chess Club's second team progressed to the second round of the inaugural Worcestershire League cup.
Although beaten 32 at home to Stourbridge, Kidderminster went through on the handicap system, their players being of a lower grade. In the last crucial game to finish, Paul Thomas beat Welsh International Julie Wilson.
Thomas was forced to give up his queen for three minor pieces, with the position unclear until Wilson made an error.
Full results (Kidderminster names first): John Varilone 0, E Small 1; Thomas 1, Wilson 0; Ken Durnell 1, A Trevis 0; Bill Pugh 0, D Scriven 1; Terry Pountney 0, H Small 1.
