SINCE early November my family have been experiencing troublesome and disturbing visits from someone or some people who have carried out various degrees of "attacks" upon our property at night.
At first my wife's jeep had baked beans tipped over it and bread pushed into handles.
We didn't bother reporting it and put it down to a one-off occurrence.
A couple of weeks later her car was again attacked. This time the soft top hood had been cut and slashed.
We reported this to the police but received no visit and little, if no, interest.
On December 8 we returned home at about 6.50pm to find a piece of toilet paper with faeces in it had been pushed through the letterbox.
This was reported to the police immediately and a week later I received a phone call from a police officer who said he would visit us early the following week.
Eventually on December 28 I received a visit from a WPC who spoke of their inability to bring any pressure to bear on the culprits.
On January 24 a large piece of brick was thrown at my car parked on the drive.
We immediately called the police and politely advised the civilian, who answered, of my dissatisfaction with the police's approach.
I was advised that the local police would be in touch next day. I then received a call the next morning from another civilian to confirm the details of my call and to advise me that a police officer had advised her we would receive a visit within 24 hours.
This didn't happen and I am still waiting.
On January 25 I returned from work at about 6pm to see two youths running away from the area.
They were again seen at about 7pm when my wife pulled on to the drive at which time I started doing the police's job for them by walking around the area in search of anyone fitting the description of the youths we had seen.
After speaking with a neighbour, I am now reasonably confident I know the culprits.
This whole story causes two areas of concern to me.
1 Why have I had to carry out basic investigative work of my own and achieve an amount of success?
2 We are just one household. How many others are suffering sleepless nights etc whilst the police seem to do nothing.
