SKIPPER Jay Powell is the latest addition to Stourport Swifts FC's ever-lengthening injury list after damaging his ribs in the 3-1 defeat at Yate Town.

He lasted just two minutes of the second half before being replaced by Mark Atkinson.

The Bristol side began the match just four points adrift of leaders and neighbours Mangotsfield United and began the game at a lightning pace.

Just three minutes had gone when they opened the scoring, recent signing Darren Edwards and Matt Rawlins combining before former Worcester City midfielder Paul Chenoweth shot home. But Stourport rallied and were level on 17 minutes when Mark Crisp thumped a header against the bar and Andy Jones stabbed in the rebound.

There was little to choose between the sides but it was Yate who went in at the break with their noses in front when star man Edwards found the net with an excellent overhead kick. Atkinson and Richard Burgess went close to netting an equaliser but home keeper Tony Court kept them at bay.

And the result was put beyond doubt 10 minutes from time when Edwards climbed to head Mike Wyatt's cross beyond Swifts keeper Aaron O'Malley.

Swifts: O'Malley 5, M Jones 6, GREEN 8, A Jones 7, Powell 6 (Atkinson 47, 6), Webb 6, Willetts 5, Bragoli 7, Crisp 6, Burgess 6, Mason 7. Subs not used: Parker, Titterton.

HOLDERS Bewdley Town FC are in their third Worcester Junior cup final in a row -- thanks to a wonder goal described by manager Craig Payton as "Rooney-esque"

Ben McCloughlan's screaming volley was enough to seal a 2-1 sem final win over Tenbury and set up a clash with Droitwich Spa in April.

Payton said: "He was about 30 yards out and it just flew in. It was Rooney-esque,

"Ben won our goal of the season last year and he's well on the way to doing it again with that."

Bewdley were forced to come from behind to secure victory after Ryan Morris headed home an Ashley Botwood corner to give Tenbury a 20th minute lead.

Lewis Pountney equalised on 26 minutes, prodding home from three yards after the Tenbury keeper fumbled a Mike Harris free-kick. McCloughlan's wonder goal came on 68 minutes when he latched onto a Hough flick to rifle in the winner.

Payton still has faith in his West Midlands League division one high-fliers to complete a league and cup double. They are in second place and visit bottom-club Wolverhampton United on Saturday, determined to close in on leaders Great Wyrley.

Goalkeeper Steve Thomas is nursing minor whiplash injuries from a car crash, so 16-year-old Andy Lacey will deputise between the sticks.

DESPITE Malvern's 4-1 victory inflicting another defeat on Chaddesley Corbett FC, boss Martin Westcott remained upberat and pledged to focus his attention on team rebuilding.

Chaddesley took the lead against the run of play, but were soon put in their place by the hosts and gradually ran out of confidence.

Westcott was pleased that Corbett were able to name five subs after struggling to field a side in their previous clash with Malvern.

But with the club still reeling from last summer's departures of Craig Pratt, who scored almost 60 goals for the club, and brothers Brian and Richard Burton, and Gavin Knight, he insists reinforcements are necessary.

"I have rebuilt sides many times, and the challenge to rebuild this club is an exciting one.

"We still have a number of very good players here, so it is not all doom and gloom".

Chaddesley host Sporting Khalsa at 2.15pm on Saturday with players due to meet at the ground for 12.45pm. They remain second from bottom afteronly managing two victories and a draw this season.
