RICHARD Wood smashed the highest ever individual score in the WCB Indoor League but his magnificent efforts proved all in vain.

The Ashton batsman hammered 71 as his side reached 129-6 against Elmley Castle after being reduced to 91-5 with Walt Rollett in fine form with the ball. Last man Wood, though, rattled up an unbelievable 35 runs off the final 14 balls as Ashton raced to 129 all out.

Simon Cooper and Ian Woodford led the reply with a swift 42 when Rollett rea-ched the wicket and led his side to victory, hitting 15 off the penultimate over and help clinch victory with three balls to spare.

Jamie Munro was another to boost his side in the later stages as his unbeaten half-century lifted Overbury from 52-5 to 106-5 at the close as the Boxmen scented a surprise.

Two unnecessary run-outs in the opening over put Overbury back in the box seat but Colwell and Law-rence junior led the recovery before Munro struck again to stump Colwell with the reply on 39.

Lawrence managed two more runs but the pressure eventually told and the Boxmen's chase ended 26 runs short of their target.

Results: Ashton 129-6, Elmley Castle 130-4; Overbury 106-5, The Boxmen 81-6. Fixtures for Tuesday: Overbury v Elmley Castle (8), Ashton v Boxmen (9).
