LEADERS and members of Guiding groups are going on a recruitment drive in Kidderminster to boost the number of women helping run packs.

The Kidderminster division of Girl Guiding UK will be in the town next month, encouraging women to get involved.

Potential recruits could volunteer to help out on an occasional, casual basis or go through training to become fully fledged leaders.

Recruitment Week is being organised by Girl Guiding UK.

With leaders and girls from Rainbow, Brownie and Guide groups dotted around Kidderminster on Thursday, March 17 and Saturday, March 19, shoppers will be able to chat informally about what opportunities are available.

There will also be chances for passers-by to take part in some of the activities girls participate in.

Kate Lane, of Wolverhampton Road, Kidderminster, who runs Broadwaters Rainbows, said: "We started up our group a year ago. We have got the helpers now but a lot of packs are struggling for help."

The mother-of-five explained the purpose of the recruitment campaign by saying: "It's just to get people involved. We just dived in and it's been so rewarding, seeing the fun that the girls have."

She added that the adults could also get something out of supporting Guiding groups, saying: "It increases your social circle. It's nice. It's all great fun. It will stand you in good stead in the workplace. If you're not in work at the moment, it will look good on your cv."

Mrs Lane, has four daughters, who have all been rainbows and are now either Brownies or Guides. "It gives them a lot of confidence," she said.

A competition to design a poster as part of the recruitment campaign is also being run. Details are available from Mrs Lane, on 01562 631511. Entries must by submitted by Friday, February 25.
