I totally agree with the views of Mr Taylor (Your Letters, January 28), it would make far more sense to use the old post office building to house a town hall, or community centre, than fill it with more shops.
Unlike small villages, which usually have a village hall, we have no focal gathering point in Malvern. The building could easily house a main, large hall, plus several function rooms underneath, where the club is at present.
The need for a performance space is getting more and more apparent, with the loss of the Con Club and the difficulty in using the theatres complex.
In the past the youth centre has sometimes been used for gigs, but is currently unavailable for hire.
As well as a place for people to enjoy themselves and let their hair down (are we allowed to enjoy ourselves these days?), the building could also be a venue for public meetings, such as the failed hospital meeting that I was turned away from.
We have three children, soon to hit teenage years, and I would like them to have the opportunity to see and take part in community arts activities and have a decent nightlife here in Malvern. If we can provide no venue for them, or indeed us middle-agers who still enjoy a good night out, what hope is there?
As the community in Malvern has recently demonstrated its willingness to attend public meetings, perhaps we could be invited to consultation or forum to share views and ideas about the regeneration of our town centre?
