The Bromyard Means Business group is launching a range of projects to put the town and its attractions on the map.

Formed to promote local trade, tourism and business, the group is leading the way by pioneering improvements to street signs.

Group leader Stuart Diplock said: "We're hoping to get two or three big brown tourist signs put up. We've only got one in the town at the moment and in the summer it's obscured by trees.

"We also want to add more small metal signs pointing things out to pedestrians."

The signs would highlight attractions such as the Conquest Theatre, Bromyard Centre and Bromyard Downs, as well as museums and churches.

The Bromyard Means Business group, which is made up of community members, firms and organisations, is also planning to set up a Bromyard ticket office.

Mr Diplock said: "We've got to get approval from Herefordshire Council, but we think if tickets for the theatre or events are all sold from one place, people would get a chance to see everything that's going on in the town."

Parking and promoting events like the gala, folk festival and British Food Fortnight are also on the group's list of priorities.

A successful business forum was held in October, attended by more than 60 representatives from the area, and members intend to follow that up with a business evening during the coming month.

It is also setting up meetings to discuss different topics in the town, from parking to tourism.

"The group is mainly to promote commerce in the town, and our meetings allow people to bounce ideas off each other," said Mr Diplock.

"We've got a lot of enthusiastic and committed people involved and hope to see our projects happening soon."
