MANOR Park's 15-year-old Adam Oakley became the youngest winner of the Malvern Closed trophy since its inauguration in 1976.

The 2005 Malvern Closed was held at Manor Park Squash Club and is a competition for members of both Malvern Squash Club and Manor Park Squash Club.

The first semi-final saw Tony Charity play Martin Hollingworth with Martin winning 3-0. The other semi-final was between Dave Arnold and Adam Oakley with Adam taking his place in the final with a 3-0 victory.

The final between Martin Hollingworth and Adam Oakley saw both players playing to a good length with long rallies and stretching each other around the court. From 5-all Martin went to a 7-5 lead but Adam fought back to lead 8-7 before the score levelled at 8-all. Adam then took the next two points to claim the first game 10-8. The second game saw Adam go into a 5-0 lead before Martin became hand-in. Adam reclaimed serve and won the next four points to claim the second game 9-0. The third game saw Martin take the initiative and he won 9-2 to reduce the deficit to 2-1 in games.

This appeared to have taken its toll on Martin and although the fourth game saw many long rallies it was dominated by Adam who won 9-0 to claim the trophy.

The final of the plate was between Di Edmenson and Justin Twigg. Di won 3-1 after a closely contested game 9-5 5-9 9-3 10-8.

The next competition at Manor Park Squash Club will be the Billy Clifford Handicap Tournament which will be played from February 21 with the finals being played the first weekend of March. Money raised will be donated to the RNLI.
