A STOURPORT scooter company has been given the chance to modify a bike with a view to making it a world-beater.

Readspeed Scooters, based in Mitton Street, has been asked by Aprilia, one of the world's largest scooter manufacturers, to fine tune a 50cc scooter for the British Scooter Sports Organisation (BSSO) championship.

The deal - the value of which is being kept a secret - has been likened to Ferrari asking someone else to make engines for their cars.

The scooter, which is normally restricted to 30mph, will be made to reach speeds of more than 90mph - making it more powerful per litre than a Formula One car.
