IT was a historic moment at noon last Friday when the winning number in the first Ludlow Lottery came up on a computer screen at the town's Assembly Rooms.
With a £1 ticket, Ludlow resident Mrs Cy Jones won £250.
It also meant a small profit for the Assembly Rooms, which has promoted the lottery with help from a local radio station.
Assembly Rooms director Paula Redway and her head of marketing Jessica Mayglothling were among those who watched the draw.
"I'm delighted with the response," said Ms Redway.
"It's excellent that people are supporting us when there are many other good causes to help at the moment."
Mrs Jones is a keen supporter of the Assembly Rooms as she is currently collecting lots for the grand auction, which is due to be held in aid of the arts venue on March 11.
"I am very pleased to support the Assembly Rooms," she said.
"Obviously, it is all in a good cause and I hope it will be a great success and people will join in.
"You have a much better chance of winning this rather than the national lottery. It's definitely worth a flutter."
Tickets for the year's remaining 11 monthly lotteries are going well. "Ideally we want to sell 6,000 as we will be giving £3,000 in prizes," Ms Redway explained.
"Please continue to support us."
Tickets can be bought at the box office. The next draw is due to be made on February 25.
