Lansdown III 1,
Bretforton II 2
ANOTHER success saw Bretforton continue to pressure the league leaders in Severn Division Two.
The match started positively with Bretforton strongly controlling the ball but it was Lansdown who scored first despite strong marking by Ceri Barber, Bernie Amphlett and Marion Icke.
The restart saw an immediate response with the ball passed from Icke and taken straight down the pitch by Barber to the top of the D where space opened up.
She played a neat hit to substitute Vicky Rhodes who netted with her first touch.
The second goal also came in the first half, again from a long ball from the talented Icke. Kate Williams was in space on the wing and she passed to captain Sarah Bragg who found the net.
There was further excitement when a Lansdown hit was saved by a brave Icke on the line.
The second half saw both sides tiring, but there was still good passing by the local side.
Shirley Aubrey had a couple of fine strikes off short corners - one hitting a post and a second kept out by a defender.
Amphlett proved her determination several times with good tackling, keeping the ball in the attacking end and earning the player of the match vote.
The match ball sponsor was Amcore Flexibles.
Bretforton's next game is a friendly against Stourport III on Saturday, February 19.
