RESIDENTS of Worcester today join the world's most populated nation, China, as it begins its New Year's celebrations.
Chinese restaurant, The Four Seasons, in Lowesmoor, is tonight hosting a sell-out black tie party where diners will enjoy tasty dishes including New Year Dim Sum Platter and sizzling fillet steak in a Cantonese sauce.
Restaurant owner Frankie Tsang, who is also chairman and founding member of the Worcestershire Chinese Association, said the celebrations are popular with the people of Worcester.
He said the annual celebration at the Guildhall, on Sunday, February 20, which is in its sixth year, will be another big event.
"It is very much a family event with children enjoying learning about Chinese culture," he said.
"There will be a large fire cracker display, dragon dance, kung fu display and a magic show for children."
The official New Year celebration is due to take place on Sunday, February 13, with festivities continuing for a further 15 days.
This year is the Year of the Rooster. Those who are born under this sign are said to be hard-working, definite about their decisions, are not afraid to speak their minds, and can sometimes come across as boastful.
