ALVECHURCH manager Peter Frain has paid tribute to battling centre half Simon Redhead.
The former Studley stopper linked up with the Lye Meadow side at the start of the season and has helped keep the club clear of the drop zone.
And not only has the towering defender been keeping the opposition at bay, he has also been finding the net at the other end.
"Simon has led from the front - a real example to the other players," Frain said.
"This is a completely new side with just three of last year's team still with the club.
"It has taken a while for them to settle but we are starting to play well at the right time.
"Simon has been excellent and he has been popping the goals in at the other end which is a real bonus."
Redhead has scored three in his last two games including a double in the extra time win at Stourbridge in the Polymac Services Cup.
Church have been drawn against Racing Club Warwick in the semi-finals, making the trip to the Racers in the first leg on Tuesday, March 1 before welcoming their neighbours the following week. The other tie sees Leicestershire neighbours Loughborough Dynamo take on Oadby Town.
Frain added: "No disrespect to Racing Club Warwick but it was the draw that we wanted. And to be drawn away in the first leg is a good plus for us."
