Birmingham University 3 Droitwich Spa 0
SPA'S unbeaten run in the Midland Combination Division Two came to a halt at the feet of leaders Birmingham on Saturday.
Three second half goals, one a penalty, saw Droitwich's 12 match run come to an end.
Manager Kevin Blaber conceded his side had been out played by the division's pace-setters.
He said: "They were far better than us.
"Birmingham are the best side we have played this season and they are going to win the title."
Droitwich had resisted Birmingham's pressure until the 60th minute before conceding the first goal.
A second goal late on put the game beyond doubt, before sweeper Damon Harris conceded a penalty near the end.
Blaber said: "I thought Damon got a touch on the ball, but the referee saw something and gave a penalty."
Ian Cottrill is set to return for Saturday's mid-table clash at home to Chelmsley Town (2.45pm kick off).
The manager has a full strength squad after striker Andy Keenahan recovered from injury quicker than expected.
Blaber is hoping to start another run to enhance his side's promotion chances.
He said: "We've been on two long unbeaten runs and I really want us to start another one."
* Droitwich Reserves' match with Birmingham United was postponed on Saturday.
Spa play Wilmcote Sports and Social away on Saturday (2.45pm kick off).
