MY SUBJECT IS the filthy conditions of our roads and the continuing inability to rectify the wheelie bin debacle as I am sure you have heard from many of us residents.

Brevity is the soul of wit -- so: the roads are not swept, the rubbish piles up, bottles, cans, half eaten cartons of fish and chips, sandwiches, vomit, dog fouling, the list is endless.

Along the High Street, half-eaten food is enjoyed by the ever growing population of pigeons. Their droppings are everywhere.

Before Christmas I had to come off the pavement along one stretch of the Birmingham Road to avoid the overhang of bushes and brambles. The brook is a dumping ground for rubbish.

Having said all that, obviously the people who make the mess must share the blame.

All I will say about the wheelie bins is that Bromsgrove is a small market town with many small side roads, small houses/cottages. The huge waste disposal vehicles cannot access the side roads and we cannot accommodate the bins.

I live in a Nailer's cottage. It was suggested to me by a council official that I could cut down a conifer and put the bins in my front garden under the sitting room window.

I will send a copy of this to Sue Nixon, chief executive.
