IT seems to me that there is a growing feeling in recent times that 4x4 vehicles are evil. There have been several programs on television and radio that have been dedicated to the subject.
Even a recent Evening News article that concerned the current status of some local "Green Lanes", could not help but mention that it would mean 4x4 drivers would still be able to use them and therefore destroy the surrounding environment.
However, all this coverage has one thing in common. The information and arguments used by the anti-4x4 lobby, are at worst preposterous and at best, inaccurate.
Some proper facts. My only vehicle is a 4x4. It is more fuel-efficient than the new mini. I am no more likely to kill a pedestrian than any other driver. It is no longer than other vehicles on the road.
Yes, I really do need it and use it off-road. I am not evil, and nor is my vehicle.
I have helped numerous motorists (which any 4x4 owner will tell you is a frequent occurrence) in distress when the weather turns bad.
I, like many 4x4 owners, am a member of a club that regularly gets together with the local Rights of Way officer to organise "Green Lane" conservation days.
While driving these lanes, we often have to clear up litter that was left by ramblers.
If like me you are worried by these attacks on your freedom of choice, visit http://www.4x4prejudice.org/ and learn how you can help the campaign to spread the truth about 4x4s.
