OLD romantics are urged to pen a poem or splash out on flowers or a card for a loved one this Valentines Day.
Tots at Whitford Hall and Dodderhill School, in Crutch Lane, wanted to remind lovebirds not to forget that special someone next Monday, February 14.
Legend has it that back in Roman times a priest named Saint Valentine was jailed by Emperor Claudius.
Before he was executed he left a farewell note to the jailer's daughter he had befriended and signed it 'From Your Valentine'.
After his death, Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St Valentine.
Gradually this became the date for exchanging love messages, however commercial Valentine's cards were not introduced until the 1800s in the USA.
