A HANBURY man was devastated after only one person turned out for the launch of his new craft club.
Terry Hickman said he was close to tears when just one man turned up for the first session of the new matchstick modelling club, last Thursday.
"I couldn't believe it when only one person came," said Mr Hickman, who had worked tirelessly to get the club up and running.
The Court Close resident even secured Kidderminster Harriers manager Stuart Watkiss to unveil the club, hoping he would attract the crowds.
The club was supposed to run from 9am until 1pm, but shortly after noon, Mr Hickman decided to call it a day.
"I am still going to be there tomorrow (Thursday) if people want to come along but I won't be able to do it much longer than that."
The pensioner is paying for the hire of the Heritage Centre in Victoria Square out of his own pocket. A month ago he had to put the launch of the club on hold after he could not get hold of enough matches.
However, thanks to a series of stories in this paper, Mr Hickman was offered donations of money and materials.
He is now offering to take his skills into schools.
"If any schools are interested I could go in during free periods of lunchtimes and do activity sessions," he added.
