I WAS interested to read the most recent pronouncement from Jacqui Smith MP on the policing of Redditch.
Last summer, she was supporting the campaign to keep Redditch police station open for 24 hours. Now she is saying it is more important to have more officers on the beat.
Is she now no longer supporting the 24-hour opening of the police station?
Is she telling the people of Redditch they can only have one at the expense of the other?
The people of Redditch have made it very clear in recent surveys as to what they want. What they want is both - a 24-hour police station and more officers on the beat.
Michael Howard and the Conservatives have pledged to fund more trained police officers and local Conservative Parliamentary candidate Karen Lumley has been campaigning vigorously for the 24-hour opening of Redditch Police Station.
It is clear where she stands on this important issue.
Ms Smith owes it to our town to state clearly where she now stands.
