INDUSTRY'S views on a proposed Environment Agency strategy for managing the abstraction of water from the River Arrow through Redditch, Studley and Alcester are being sought.

The agency is reviewing its management of the water resources of the River Avon and its tributaries - which include the Arrow - and are consulting widely.

The Warwickshire Avon Catchment Abstraction Management Strategy (CAMS) consultation document describes how the agency has determined the future availability of water from the river and its tributaries for industrial use.

The document looks at the water needs of agriculture, industry, power generation and tourism. When the strategy is finished, it will set out the licensing practice for extracting water from the Arrow.

Agency regulatory officer Ines Aguirre said: "Water is a vital resource. It is important we manage it in a sustainable way to protect it for future generations but we must regulate it in a way that is fair to everyone."

The document can be viewed online at www.environment-agency.gov.uk or obtained by calling 01684 864455.

A drop-in session will be held tomorrow at Globe House, Priory Road, Alcester, from 4-6.30pm.
