THE son of a man who founded an agricultural auctioneers in Kidderminster at the end of the 19th century has died.
Tony Banks, who was 90, was the son of George Herbert Banks, who established G Herbert Banks in 1898.
He joined his father in the business in 1931 before taking it over when George died in 1946.
It evolved over the following 30 years, becoming Banks and Silvers before being bought out by General Accident in 1987.
"He was a highly regarded professional man but his main love was Kidderminster Cattle Market," said his son, David.
"He was held in the highest regard, both by butchers and farmers, and was undoubtedly the finest cattle auctioneer of his time.
"He farmed throughout his life and had a wonderful feel for the countryside and all those who lived in it."
Tony died at his Wichenford home. A memorial service was held at the end of January.
