TWO Worcester students with disabilities have highlighted the everyday difficulties they face in getting to college.
Mark Guest and Barrie Hillier, learning opportunities students at the College of Technology, have written a special academic piece called How I Get to College.
They recorded the problems they faced in crossing Deansway, one of the city's busiest roads, over 12 months.
They took photographs to highlight the issue, and created a brochure for a classroom presentation. Now they have voiced their concerns to Worcester City Council.
David Denning, from the highways transportation department, visited the pair along with colleagues from the county council to listen to what they had to say.
The students then took them out onto Deansway to observe the problems first-hand and discuss how they could be solved.
"This has been an extremely interesting and worthwhile project to complete," said learning support assistant at the college, Teresa Jones.
"Although the council was intending to improve Deansway anyway it has been a great experience for the students to be able to voice their opinions and have their views taken into account on an issue that affects many of our students and staff every day.
"This was a small classroom assignment that snowballed into something worthwhile and the students have benefited greatly from working on a live project."
