IT is with great regret that I read of the imminent closure of Waitrose in Kidderminster.

The quality and range of its products is of the highest standard, and has no comparison. Councillor James Dudley, who was quoted in your story, is mistaken in thinking it will only affect a few office workers. The store is a favourite with many older people because its not too large to walk around and has big bus stops right outside. Nigel Wolfendon, who runs the nearby caf, is right to be concerned for the future of this area.

It was disappointing when Marks & Spencer moved to Weavers Wharf. I find their new store is very cramped and it doesn't compare well with the old High Street store.

When the Waitrose site is redeveloped it is to be hoped that it will attract some high quality retailers such as Rackhams or Beatties. We have enough cheap, tacky shops.

THE plan to close the Waitrose store has angered me and many others in Kidderminster. People of all ages rely on the store for their shopping.

I ask the people of Kidderminster to protest against the decision. This must be done now or we'll lose it.

I have written to John Lewis Partnership and am awaiting a reply.

We must stand up and fight - it's a long way to Waitrose at Droitwich.

I WONDER if Waitrose management have any idea of the loss to the town the closure of their store will be. So many people enjoy a smaller, more homely atmosphere which is lacking in superstores and is reminiscent of the corner shop we used to know.

I, for one, have shopped there for 35 years - since the day it opened - and I can't understand why it isn't continuing.

Marks & Spencer has already moved and if anything else was needed to finish off this part of the town, then surely this is it.
