TITLE-CHASING Bewdley Town breathed a sigh of relief after producing their worst performance of the season - but still beating West Midland League Division One basement club Wolverhampton United 4-2.

A Jamie Hart brace and goals from Lewis Pountney and Chris Hough eventually secured the win that keeps Bewdley hot on the heels of leaders Great Wyrley and confident of landing one of the top two promotion spots.

But it was too close for comfort for boss Craig Payton who saw his side twice throw away the lead with Hart doing a Juan Pablo Angel and missing two penalties.

Pountney it was who opened the scoring on eight minutes after rising to head in a Ben McCloughlan corner before John Williams equalised for Wolverhampton two minutes later after a Mike Harris mistake.

Hart scored the first of his two goals to restore Bewdley's advantage on 27 minutes after latching onto McCloughlan's through-ball, but again their joy was shortlived as Patrick Gayton's screamer drew Wolverhampton level on 35 minutes.

Bewdey continued to create most of the chances but they just could not kill off their struggling rivals and even missed a penalty through Hart midway through the second half after Gavin Smith was fouled in the box.

Credit to Bewdley, they kept on going and eventually their persistence paid off when Hough headed them into a 3-2 lead from Hart's corner on 73 minutes.

Hart looked to have made up for his penalty miss with a cool finish on 78 minutes, with McCloughlan again the provider, but he compounded his original error by wasting a chance to complete his hat-trick from the spot on 88 minutes.
