STUART Watkiss is bidding to pull off a transfer coup that would create waves in Coca-Cola Two.

The Kidderminster Harriers boss has been keeping tabs on a talented wide midfielder and is poised to swoop if the player can agree a settlement with his current club.

Watkiss will not reveal the name of his target as up to five other teams are believed to be interested but he considers Harriers favourites at the moment.

He said: "We are reliant on the player getting a pay-off from his club and he is close to that at the moment. I spoke to his agent again yesterday and I think he will come to us."

Watkiss does not expect further developments though until after Saturday's crucial relegation clash with Chester City at Aggborough.

Meanwhile, Harriers' players had the day off today before tomorrow's roll-call when Watkiss expects the recent outbreak of mumps and illness to have just about cleared up.

John Danby, Johnny Mullins, Simon Weaver, Blair Sturrock and Jamie Gleeson are all over the worst but Tom Bennett has a virus.

Lee Jenkins is back from suspension, while there will be fitness checks on Gary Birch and Dean Kea-tes who are playing through knee and shoulder injuries respectively.
