SORROW has turned to joy at a vandal-hit Bewdley play scheme, which has been inundated with generous donations - including an anonymous £500 cheque.

Children at the Wribbenhall After School Play Scheme - WASPS - were devastated when they discovered their play equipment had been stolen, wrecked and even urinated on when their storage sheds were broken into last month.

After their plight was highlighted in the Shuttle/Times & News, however, help flooded in from local companies and individuals.

A massive £620 has been given in cash and donations of toys, videos and games have replaced much of what was lost.

The money has enabled the group to buy a high-security shed to replace the two damaged in the attack at their base at Wribbenhall Hall First School.

WASPS vice-chairman, Ian Purcell said: "We would like to thank everyone who has helped. People who we didn't know have given cash and play equipment."

The £500 anonymous donation was sent from a company called Boblins but the signature was indistinguishable and, although the envelope had a Bewdley postmark, Mr Purcell has been unable to trace it.
