THE news that the restrictions on vehicular access toThe Shambles, Angel Square are to to be tightened, would be more welcome were there any evidence that the existing restrictions were being enforced.

But cars and vans regularly use the Angel Place entrance as a rat-run and on Sundays, The Shambles is packed with parked cars.

I have seen parking wardens (and police) strolling around the town quite blissfully oblivious of the blatant and regular contravention of these restrictions.

So it's no surprise that drivers ignore the notices forbidding the practices they engage in every day.

The real surprise would be if WCT eventually get around to policing these areas. So far, they show no inclination to do so.
