RUNNERS stepped out to raise vital funds for a Wyre Forest charity that helps families cope with bereavement.
More than 300 people took part in the Brambles Trust 10k and 5k road races in September and helped swell profits to £3,707, it has just been announced.
The annual event, backed by the Shuttle/Times & News, has become one of the biggest fund-raisers for the trust and has now contributed £15,700 over the past four years.
Many of the runners boosted September's total with sponsorship, while part of the proceeds from entry fees were donated by Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club, which organised the event.
Brambles fund-raising manager, Eileen Vaux, said: "We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all those who helped to organise the races.
"The number of runners was up this year but, as usual, everything went like clockwork and it was a wonderful day."
She added: "Unfortunately, some runners returned their sponsorship forms without an address and so we were unable to thank them personally.
"But we are so grateful for their support and every penny they raised will be well spent by the trust."
Brambles supports bereaved children and their families, setting up weekend camps for those who have suffered the loss of loved ones.
A cheque for £200 from the race proceeds has also gone to the Ray Mercer Sporting Foundation, which gives financial help to Wyre Forest's most talented young sportsmen and women.
The road races - a 10k event incorporating the Worcestershire Championship, and a 5k fun run - are scheduled to be held again on Sunday, September 25, starting and finishing at the all-weather athletics track at Kingsway, Stourport.
