AN ADVENTUROUS manager will be swapping the rolling slopes of the Malvern Hills for the rugged terrain of northern China to take part in a charity walk.

Thirty-seven-year-old Martin Horsnail, of Assarts Road, Malvern Wells, is joining a group of about 20 people from across the country to undertake the 100-mile trek on the Great Wall of China in aid of Asthma UK.

The team will be walking a 100-mile stretch from Beijing to Juyongguan over seven days in September, taking in historic villages, incredible views and steep paths.

Mr Horsnail, who works as a sales manager for Kent-based food company Ardo - is no stranger to challenges, having taking part in the Great North Run in Gateshead last year, raising more than £600 for the Stroke Association.

He is now preparing for the mammoth trek in China by going to the gym three times a week and walking the Malvern Hills regularly.

And he hopes to raise more than £2,500 through his latest adventure and has already notched up £250 from Robert Stern BMW garage in Worcester.

"The distance we'll be doing doesn't seem a lot, but when you look at the terrain, some of these paths are really steep," he said.

"I'm raising money for what I think is a good cause and am very much looking forward to what will be a fairly physical challenge."
