Having seen and heard all of the debate surrounding the proposed new hospital for Malvern I now feel, for the first time in my lifelong Malvern residency, like writing to the Gazette.
Thankfully, the Pickersleigh Road site has been taken out of the equation. It was never suitable and never would be.
Forget all about Seaford Court - heads should be hung in shame for the way that this once delightful period property has deliberately allowed to become derelict. The fact that it is near to the railway provides no real advantage, unlike it would have done for Worcester Infirmary, as it would only benefit Colwall people and even that is debatable.
Furthermore, whichever way you look at it, Seaford Court is on a slope, bad news for the elderly or disabled - just look at Worcester Infirmary with its man-made hilltop entrance. Then there is the whole subject of increased traffic exiting onto Worcester Road, not to mention the parking.
As we are being subjected to a centralisation of GP's along Roman Way, do the right thing and build the hospital there on the same site as the GPs. It is on the flat, there is plenty of space available, it has easy access in all directions and could be combined into some sort of useful health centre.
Build secure staff parking beneath the building and, assisted by the sale of the existing sites, acquire sufficient ground for future expansion.
For once get it right while you have the opportunity and do not make the same blunders as the Worcester Infirmary is saddled with.
