IT was Cup Sunday in Malvern and Hereford and there were some high scoring games.

In The Soccer Site Malvern League President's Cup Ganglands hit the jackpot, scoring 17 goals against a depleted Keys Victoria outfit. Victoria started the game with only ten players and were made to suffer for the whole 90 minutes.

At the end, Gordon Mansell had clocked up six goals, Trevor Worgan five and, after coming on as sub, Trevor Taylor recorded a hat-trick. Thomas Bethel, Dave Marshall and Stuart Preece felt like the poor relations, getting only one each. Preece also collected the man-of-the-match award.

Perowne Park Rangers had their shooting boots on too. This time it was Fromes Hill who were to suffer, losing 6-2 in a game which could have been much closer if they had played the first half in the same fashion as the second.

At half-time, Perowne lead 2-0 but Fromes Hill scored soon after the re-start and kept things at 2-1 for some time. Eventually, they were undone by the youth and fitness which is Perowne's trademark and the home side added four more goals with only one coming in reply. Both Fromes Hill's goals were netted by Shaun Taylor. On the scoresheet for Perowne were Dan Wakeham and Stu Green with two apiece, Peter Jones and Matt Harris.

The game between Keyz 04 and All Stars Misfits was a keenly-contested affair. Martin Sharp gave Keyz a 1-0 early lead, but before half-time Stuart Crow had scored twice to give Misfits a 2-1 interval lead.

In the second period, Andrew Lancett found the net twice for Keyz and another from Alexander Peck made Keyz' 4-2 victory look a little easier than it was.

In the only league game played, Bell Inn's Peter Brown scored two goals. Unfortunately for him and the team, Cross Keys scored nine, having built up an unassailable lead of 5-1 before half-time.

With two of its leading sides playing each other, the Malvern League was bound to retain an interest in the Herefordshire FA Sunday Cup.

As it was, the holders Bishops Frome were dumped out of the competition by Oak All Stars. In a bizarre game of seven penalties, two red cards and innumerable yellows, the Oak triumphed 4-3.

Finding themselves 1-2 down at half-time they found enough strength and effort in the second half to turn things around. However, it was very close and in the final stages, Bishops Frome had a number of chances to draw level and even win the match but were unable to take them.

The league's Senior Cup quarter-finals, to be played on Sunday, has produced some interesting ties with league leaders Oak All Stars at home to third-placed Dynamo Ledbury. Two other division one clashes sees Bishops Frome at home to Bell Inn 98 and Talbot Head welcome Morgan Aero 8. The only division two side left in the competition, Belmont Keys, visit stable-mates Cross Keys.
