WEST Malvern scored the highest number of goals this season in this Phipps Cup group match but in a game played in atrocious conditions, with continual rain, both defences had a nightmare.

WEST MALVERN 7, KOINONIA 5

Koinonia were in front after 10 minutes when a cross-come-shot completely confused keeper Matty Powell and it went in at the near post. Within five minutes West Malvern were level from a free- kick taken by Graeme MacLennan, the keeper only parrying the ball and Mike Dean, making his return to the club after four years, scored from close range.

Koinonia once again came back and after 40 minutes they were back in front. Three minutes later West Malvern were level when a ball played from Paul Sirrett found Mitchell Probert, who drove home from 15 yards.

On the 60th minute West Malvern went in front for the first time. This time Paul Sirrett beat two men before powering the ball home. But once again Koinonia came back and in the 65th minute they scored again.

West Malvern introduced Anthony Holder for the limping Graeme MacLennan and he immediately had an impact, crossing the ball to Derek Browne on the edge of the box, who drove the ball home. Anthony Holder then capped a good performance in the 74th minute by scoring himself but once again Koinonia came back to reduce the deficit.

In the 81st minute Mike Dean was brought down in the penalty area and Mitchell Probert converted the kick. He completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute when hammering home a cross from Paul Sirrett. But not to be denied, Koinonia came back to score their fifth.

Paul Milne came off suffering from a virus and was replaced with Anthony Orgee, who played well.

Tomorrow (Saturday), West Malvern, sponsored by Amey and the Cross Keys, travel to Inkberrow in a league match, players meet at Eurohaus 12.45pm.
