Contrary to what Alec Wall (Your Letters, February 4) believes, the new Liberal Democrat administration at Malvern Hills District Council was prudent to postpone the take over of traffic enforcement from the police.
The defeated Conservative administration had planned to spend £40,000 on outside consultants. Liberal Democrats believed that, by learning directly from our neighbouring councils, we could get better value for money and we were right.
We have had to allocate only £16,000 in this year's budget to kick-start the process of employing our own wardens, while still keeping the rise in Council Tax below four per cent.
We may have taken a little longer than the Tories wanted, but we're a lot less expensive. I think Malvern Hills taxpayers will forgive the slight delay.
Coun Jon Rayner, Malvern Hills District Council, Abbey Road, Malvern.
