WELLAND travelled to the north of the county for their latest league encounter looking to consolidate their Mercian Festival League position and add to their impressive goal tally.
OMBERSLEY 1, WELLAND JUNIORS U16S 7
The opening exchanges were evenly-contested but when speedy forward Scott Walker fired home his first of the afternoon, it was clear where the three points were going. Midfielder Richard Pitt added a second before Welland's leading scorer Russell Alderson latched onto a clever lob from Josh Fernie to make it 0-3 within just 20 minutes.
The home side gave themselves a ray of hope when Welland failed to clear their lines and Ombersley slotted home from 10 yards. However, their hope quickly dissolved when Russell Alderson scored his second and Welland's fourth five minutes before the break.
Welland continued to dominate play in the second half with moments of sublime passing football creating numerous goal- scoring opportunities, three of which were converted resulting in Scott Walker completing his hat-trick and a superb volley from central defender Ollie Smith.
In this form Welland are a threat to any team and could yet finish better than their current third place.
Man of the Match, sponsored by Butlers Health & Fitness, was hat-trick hero Scott Walker.
MALVERN UNITED U16S 5, MOSTYN RANGERS U16S 2
MALVERN United set their stall out early against Mostyn Rangers, when, after just four minutes, Liam Harford's cross was met by Luke Arnold to put the home side in front.
United kept up the pressure but in the 22nd minute, against the run of play, a superbly taken free-kick got Mostyn back on level terms. United picked up the gauntlet and hard work from central midfielder Ricardo Duarte ensured the lead was regained 10 minutes later when his defence-splitting pass was latched onto by Sean Harris to turn and fire home.
Seven minutes into the second half, sloppy defensive play enabled Mostyn once again to get even but United's Luke Arnold responded three minutes later by dribbling through the entire Mostyn defence to score a magnificent goal.
United had Zac Blood come on for the injured Andy Nolan and he made an immediate impact by receiving a pass from Ricardo Duarte and scoring. Mostyn refused to give in and pressed forward looking for a way back into the game but good defending from Andy Woodward and Dave Ash, backed-up by firm-handling from keeper Alex Jenkins, ensured United kept the upper hand. With full-time beckoning Liam Harford crossed into the box for Zac Blood to deftly lob back over the Mostyn keeper and put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Man of the match was Zac Blood.
WORCESTER RANGERS U15s 2,
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U15s 6
MALVERN Town Wanderers displayed great team spirit to come back from 2-0 down to finally win 2-6 at Worcester Rangers.
The first half started with Wanderers having all the attacking play only to concede two goals in two minutes. Lewis Hooper, playing outfield, pulled a goal back on 17 minutes following a good ball from new signing Ben White. On 21 minutes Wanderers were awarded a penalty and Hooper duly scored. Wanderers kept the pressure up and on 39 minutes, hat-trick Hooper did it again making the score at half-time 2-3.
The second half saw some great goalkeeping from the Rangers' keeper but after constant pressure Wanderers were awarded another penalty on 51 minutes and Joe Blain scored. In the next 20 minutes, Ryan Mansbridge, Chris Wynne and Joe Blain all had shots saved by the Rangers' keeper but on 70 minutes Mansbridge scored to make it 2-5.
Two minutes from the end, Mansbridge made it 2-6 but just failed to complete his hat-trick despite some good attempts.
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U14S 8,
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 0
SUNDAY'S local derby between Newtown Sports Colts and Malvern Town Wanderers was played on a partially water-logged pitch, with both teams finding it hard to keep their feet.
The Colts had the lion's share of possession and attacked constantly, but a combination of brave defending, some poor finishing and the heavy pitch restricted the Colts. As half-time approached, an exchange between Edwards and Hale set-up the latter who made it 1-0 with a deflected shot.
In the second half, the Colts stepped up a gear and a neat interchange between Hale and Baker saw Baker score a well-taken goal. A through ball from Powell found Hale, who was brought down in the box. He got up and dispatched the spot kick to make it 3-0.
Playing with renewed confidence, the Colts added further goals through Edwards, a rare one from Roskams, and Hale went on to grab another three as the Colts dominated.
Wanderers kept battling to the end but rarely troubled Johnson in the Colts goal who, with the help of White, Buckle and Scullion, kept another clean sheet.
