COLWALL kept up their unbeaten run in 2005 with a hard fought win over Gloucester IIIs at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Saturday.
COLWALL WHC 2, GLOUCESTER III 1
Colwall had made several changes to their defensive line-up because of injuries and unavailability, and Gloucester IIIs took advantage of the uncertainty to take the lead.
Stand-in goalkeeper Lesley Wood was called into action to prevent Gloucester from increasing their lead with some good acrobatic saves. Colwall eventually organised themselves and were able to build on some good attacking moves with Nicky Glover putting Colwall level on the stroke of half-time.
Colwall opened strongly in the second half, with Laura Enwistle driving from defence to set up some good attacking moves.
They were unlucky not to score when several shots struck the post and cross bar, and the Gloucester goalkeeper made some good saves.
Colwall took the lead from a breakaway run from Gemma Richards, who combined with Coral Handley to outstrip the defence, before Handley wrong-footed the keeper.
Colwall had further chances but Gloucester defended well to keep the score down to 2-1.
