SHARP-EYED Worcestershire people have been urged not to see red if traffic lights start to misbehave during the cold weather.
A drop in temperature can sometimes disrupt the smooth running of signals, according to Worcestershire County Council.
Recent examples include the frost causing buttons on pedestrian crossings to jam when they are pressed. The result is that the lights continually turn from green to red even if there is no one waiting to cross.
Caution
If that happens, motorists are asked to remain calm and proceed across the crossing using extreme caution.
"We have a number of highly dependable computer systems that look after the traffic signals throughout Worcestershire," said Dave Tassell, senior engineer for the council.
"We are usually aware if there are any problems. However, there can be occasions when signals appear perfectly OK to us, but there was a problem at a pelican crossing.
"It is at times like this that we rely on the road users to let us know something is wrong."
Any driver who spots a fault is asked to call the council on 0800 137352.
