SAS soldiers are being urged not to switch careers to earn huge sums with private security firms in Iraq and Afghanistan, reports claimed this morning.
About 120 troopers from the SAS - which is based in Hereford - and the Navy's SBS are thought to have taken up the offers and now earn as much as £14,000 a month.
A junior non-commissioned officer earns £28,000 a year.
A letter sent from the regiment's headquarters to all 300 front-line members of the SAS warned "it would be in everyone's best interests" if they stayed with the service, The Daily Telegraph reported.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said it was its policy to not comment on issues about the special forces.
