THE oversight on behalf of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS trust regarding the number of car parking spaces that would be needed by staff is not an excuse to start charging them.

I find paying to park at my place of work a bit of an insult.

I recognise that some people probably don't need to drive to work, but most staff do.

Surely, they should look at providing more options such as bus services or construction of a multi-storey car park to combat this problem, instead of passing the cost on to the staff.

I do not live very far from the hospital but getting there without a car is almost impossible.

I could catch a bus into town and then another to work, which could take anything up to an hour (the bus service does not cover the times at the start of an early shift or end of a late shift either!)

Alternatively, I could walk the two-or-so miles, which I wouldn't find a problem, apart from the fact that I would be walking an unlit path past a wood at seven in the morning or 10 at night. I do not have anyone living near me to car share. I get lifts from family when they are free to. Apart from that I am left no option but to use my car.

I feel the staff is taking the brunt of something, which really isn't our fault. I don't know of anyone else who pays to go to work, and I can's see why we should either!
