DROITWICH-based Train 4 Security has launched a new support service to help companies through the minefield of licences now required for staff.
The firm, which offers courses and workshops tailored to raising the standards of the private security industry, will provide the service to coincide with new laws.
By March 2006, all those who provide or carry out contracted security activities will require a licence, issued by the Security Industry Association (SIA).
The process includes gathering data on each employer, completing a comprehensive application form for each potential licence-holder, and satisfying rigorous criteria.
The SIA plans to introduce an Approved Contractors Scheme allowing those accredited to work while their licence application is being processed, provided they have successfully completed the approved training.
"The introduction of professional licences for security staff will be a welcome boost to an industry that has suffered from a poor image for too many years," said Phil Ruggiero, managing director of Train 4 Security.
"By ensuring that security staff are properly qualified, standards within the industry will inevitably be raised. Our new licensing support service will help companies assess their own competencies and guide them through the application process."
