ONCE upon a time there were lots of loos in Worcester. Some of them were not very salubrious but at least they were there and were a Godsend to elderly geriatrics on diuretics.

Now we have nowhere to go and must think very carefully before attempting to walk anywhere. This, apparently, is no problem to modern youngsters encouraged into late-night drinking.

They, it seems, do not share the same reservations. Soon we are approaching a time when every shop doorway and street will smell just as badly as the old hole-in-the-corner latrines that at least did localise the nuisance.

One has only to look at the widespread urine stains already to be seen on the newly surfaced parts of High Street to appreciate the scale of the problem.
