A LICKEY END athlete is preparing for an oriental adventure after being selected to compete in the Beijing Special Olympics World Games in 2007.
Richard Murphy, 16, is set to rub shoulders with thousands of competitors from all over the world.
Father Niall Murphy believes his son, a pupil at Rigby Hall Special School, has still to take the news in that he will be travelling to the other side of the world.
He said: "Richard was over the moon. He's taken it all in his stride, but I don't think it has quite sunk in yet.
"The later it gets the size of what he's doing and where he's going will hit him."
Murphy was one of the biggest winners at the Worcestershire Special Olympics' presentation evening last week.
Murphy was presented with the overall club champion, athletics champion and swimming champion awards.
