A TELEPHONE box was blown up in an attempt to steal money from the cash box.
Police believe a powerful firework had been taped to the phone and set off, causing it to explode.
The explosion, in Long Bank, Bewdley, at around 7pm on Monday, blew out the telephone box, causing extensive damage.
"Witnesses have reported seeing a blue car pull up to the telephone box several times and drive off," said a police spokesman.
"Shortly after the last occasion they saw the blue car leave, there was an explosion and the windows blew out.
"It is possible there was a similar attempt the previous night, when a smaller explosion was heard."
The vicinity of the telephone box was cordoned off and diversions set up.
Inquiries into the explosion are continuing.
Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Kidderminster Police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
