A TWELVE-year dream to open a community centre in the heart of Worcester has finally been completed.
The £1m City Centre Community Centre was opened yesterday on Midland Road, just off Wyld's Lane, after nine months of building.
"It's a place where people can meet and get involved in activities" said Worcester city councillor Francis Lankester.
The centre will cater for toddler clubs through to pensioner lunch groups. It includes two meeting rooms, a turfed toddlers' play area, and a separated "kickabout" area for youths.
The 12-year delay was because the city council was unable to finalise a suitable site. It was also waiting to hear whether the Perryfields Adult Education Centre was going to remain open - which it has.
"What we have now is the prospect of a community facility that's easily accessible from the centre and is aimed at serving the widest range of communities and interests," added Mr Lankester.
