STOURPORT still trying to secure their National League Premier Two status after having to settle for a share of the points in a 2-2 draw with local rivals Bournville on Sunday.
The match at Stourport Sports Club was played in poor conditions that sometimes affected the quality of the hockey on display.
Stourport opened the scoring on 12 minutes when one of Peter Gibbin's mazy runs drew the Bournville keeper who could only watch as the ball was squared for Phil Lashford to pass into the empty net.
They continued to probe throughout the first half, Westhead creating two good chances for new signing Rob Allen, but the forward's first National League goal evaded him with good saves from the Bournville 'keeper.
At half-time the game remained 1-0 with Bournville offering very little going forward.
This was to change in the second half as Bournville came out and looked to put real pressure on the Stourport defence, with the home team reduced to counter-attacks.
Goalkeeper Stu Hendy was in excellent form as he made numerous saves from Bournville's forwards. Meanwhile at the other end, Lashford grabbed a second from Dave Tuckett-Good's accurate pass to make the score 2-0.
Bournville's 'keeper then thwarted Westhead who found himself clean through while the post denied Lashford his third and a probable Stourport win.
Bournville seized their chance and in a frenetic last 15 minutes that saw three yellow cards, Thompson scored after a scramble in the 'D' while Hendy could only watch as a deflected short corner flew in to the net with five minutes left on the clock.
Stourport, who are currently in eighth, the last relegation spot with four going down, travel to fellow strugglers Doncaster on Sunday.
Stourport boys' under-18s are hoping for a repeat performance in the HE Cup after winning the national competition at under-15 level. The team, coached by Peter Terry and Mark Moss, has progressed to the quarter-final of the tournament after a 2-0 win over Isca from Exeter.
Ashley Jones and Ben Everett-Li scored either side of the break for the boys team - the backbone of which celebrated success in the younger age group three years ago.
The current under-15s will be hoping to emulate them when they play host to Lichfield in the fourth round of the cup this weekend.
The under-15s girls are also in the fourth round of the HE Plate with a tie away at Teignmouth in Devon on Sunday.
Also bidding for success are the under-18s girls who travel to Clifton, in Bristol, for the fourth round of the HE Cup.
"We've got a thriving youth set up at the moment with players spread right across the club from first team down," said Terry.
Stourport seconds were involved in a high-scoring match with Belper after a late rally saw them sneak a 4-4 draw.
Two goals from Dan Packwood put them 2-1 up at half-time but a dismal five-minute spell after the break saw them trailing 4-2 with 10 minutes left.
They refused to give in and late goals from Ben Everett-Li and Luke Martin salvaged a point. The seconds are away at Bournville at 2pm on Saturday.
Ashley Jones was on target for the thirds in the 3-1 defeat at Nottingham University that keeps them in the bottom half of the table.
They host Edgbaston at 1pm on Saturday.
With four teams going down the fourths also need to get their act together to make sure of safety after a 7-1 hammering by Birmingham University. Justin Wilday grabbed their consolation goal. They travel to Leek at 3pm on Saturday.
Stourport sixths are considering asking for their match at Bridgnorth to be replayed with poor lighting contributing to their 3-1 defeat.
Their goal came courtesy of 14-year-old Dan Hurley who finished a smart move involving Neal Evans and Neil Hopkins. They play host to Wolverhampton at 4pm on Saturday.
