THE Rhydd Covert Charity Judo Competition for newcomers to the sport saw Wyre Forest almost completely dominate the county open event.
Hosts Samurai Judo Club took six gold medals out of the 10 categories, with Bewdley Judo Club securing a further three.
The event raised £300 for Shuttle/ Times and News Scout appeal, Operation Covert.
The boys superlightweights started well for the Samurai with Oliver Perry using his slight weight advantage to beat clubmate Luke Tramontana to the gold.
Samurai's Mark Circus soon stamped his authority on the boys lightweights category, with four maximum point wins earning him gold with Ben Davis and Tom Wilkes taking bronzes. The boys light-middleweight gold was the only one to elude the Wyre Forest clubs, going to Stourbridge, although Samurai's Henry Bassett won the bronze.
In the boys middleweights, Samurai newcomer Brandon Smith did well to win bronze.
But most of the attention was on Bewdley's Adam Nutland's final win over Samurai's Craig Seldon.Peter Valentine added a bronze to Bewdley's growing tally.
The boys heavyweights saw Bewdley powerhouse Russell Nutland clinch the top prize by beating Samurai novice Simon Cunningham, who has just four weeks of judo experience under his belt. Samurai debutant Ian Curley-Floyd secured the bronze, along with Bewdley's Valentine.
The girls lightweights was a tightly contested affair with all four medals going to Samurai, Sonia Cunningham grabbing gold, Victoria Davis taking silver and Liane Gillespie-Akar and Diana Barber-Hunt bagging bronzes. Another Samurai, Rosie Wilkes, finished fifth.
Rachel Moon took Samurai's fourth gold medal in the next weight group with Deanna Murphy adding a bronze.
The girls light-middleweights were the biggest category of the day with two Samurai newcomers taking centre stage.
Amy Lawton, who took up judo last July after a taster course at King Charles I School, clocked up six wins out of six to blow away impressive opponent Cara Galloway in the final.
Beth Coleman also looked much improved and she and Sally Moon took the bronzes.The last category in the girls saw an all Samurai affair in the final with Keeley Mills overcoming Emma Mountford to take gold and Jessica Sullivan and Christie Galloway celebrating bronzes.
