A BROOK that overflowed during last spring's flash floods - causing thousands of pounds of damage - is to be cleared following intervention by Warndon Village's new environment warden.
The home of Alison Rogers, of Birchanger Green, was badly affected when the brook burst its banks and flooded into her home.
"It seemed that the brook didn't drain properly and the drains couldn't cope.
"As my house is a little bit lower than the rest, the water came flooding in.
"All the carpets were ruined, the sofa had to be replaced and I had to get a new kitchen.
"The water came into the garage too, damaging the lawn mower, but luckily the car was OK."
Miss Rogers discovered her insurance premium went up following her claim and contacted a member of her parish council for help after she read in the Evening News about the new post of Warndon Village's environment warden.
"We were worried that it might flood again or make the house difficult to sell," she said.
"We contacted Severn Trent and the Environment Agency at the time but no action was taken."
After assessing the brook and liaising with Worcester City Council, environment warden Kevin Jenkins found contractors to take the brook down to its original level.
"I went down there and could see a lot of obstacles, overgrowth and silt," he said.
"The culvert has obviously been blocked up by these things and we found out we could do something about it."
Mr Jenkins said after discussions with the contractor and pending risk assessments, the brook would be cleared within a fortnight, and the bed returned to its original level.
"I spent a day clearing it out but realised it needed a machine to do the complete unblocking," he said.
"Hopefully, that will sort out the problem."
Mr Jenkins can be contacted via the Orchard House customer service centre on 01905 722233 or by calling the parish council's member for the environment Yvonne Griffiths on 01905 452384.
